I've spent much of the past two days being educated about doors. It turns out that doors are somewhat more complex than I ever thought. Due to fire regulations we need to use solid wood fire-resistant doors (which are good for sound insulation too). The windows in the doors can only be a certain size and also have to have special fire-resistant glass in them. Then all the doors have to have special thresholds under the door with rubber seals to stop sound coming out there. Then all the doors need automatic door closers (again for fire). Then we have to choose handles, locks and even hinges (inswing or outswing). I haven't even mentioned the frames. And we still have to paint them.
The thing is of course that nobody notices the doors. It's not like the customers will say, "Hey dude, Kroaky's has really great doors!" "Yeah, 'Riders on the Storm's' my favorite." "No, the fire doors!" "Yeah, 'Light my Fire', great song. Morrison's my man!" ...
